The work consists in the study of the flow around a circular cylinder confined within a streamwise-periodic channel flow and with a large blockage ratio.

The flow is studied via direct numerical simulation using two different codes: an immersed boundary code and the finite-volumes-based OpenFOAM. This brings to light the advantages and disadvantages of both codes in terms of computational efficiency as well as in terms of computed statistics.
