Aerothermodynamics
Modeling high speed atmospheric entry of meteors and space debris (in cooperation with Von Karman Institute of Fluid Dynamics)
List of activities to be further developed within thesis work:
Development of a two-dimensional Diffuse Interface Model of the meteor melting, including the dynamic of the molten liquid film.
Medelling the effects of tumbling motion on space debris entry trajectories
Development of a particle based kinetic schemes for the study of hypersonic inviscid flows and applications to atmospheric entry of large bodies.
Activities can be subdivided into (at least) two sub tasks to be developed within individual thesis.
Microfluidics
Development of models for the dynamics of low pressure gases carrying micro particles and droplets.
Design and optimization of micro-nozzles for high-power laser pulses production (in cooperation with Polimi Physics Department).
Propagation of shock waves in liquids containing micro particles.
